Material information: The carbon scopes are made by hand. The cutting and draping of the fabric layers, the hardening process of the plastic matrix and the milling of the raw parts take several hours. The subsequent painting poses a particular challenge. In order to reinforce the unmistakable depth effect of the carbon fabric, the components are painted several times. Each individual coat of paint must be dried and then sanded. After applying the last coat of paint, the carbon part is polished to a high gloss (the open-pored carbon versions are an exception). The carbon components are qualified according to the applicable BMW standard. This is the only way to ensure that the high requirements, e.g. with regard to aging and temperature resistance, are met without cracking or paint detachment from the substrate and yellowing of the matrix is avoided. This high degree of manual work and qualification effort is responsible for the price.
